Fitness Tips

q1.gif (974 bytes)If you're wondering about how to get started or what to expect once you start working out, here are some tips which come from questions typically asked by new clients:

What should I wear?
Whatever makes you comfortable (no jeans).

What (or how) should I eat before a workout?
Have a small snack, 200-300 calories, one to two hours before working out. For early morning workouts, have a banana or half bagel on your way in.

How about afterwards?
Eat a combination of of proteins and carbohydrates as soon as possible--your body will love it!

Will I be sore?
Yes, but just for a few workouts. Don't worry, we've all been there!

qshower.gif (1298 bytes)Do you have showers?
Yes! Plus towels, shampoo and hair dryers.
Just get here and we take care of the rest!

What's the deal with stretching?
You should stretch before and after your workout. When you work with a Personal Trainer, we stretch you out.

What if I have a bad back or other injury?
Can I still work out?

Yes, if you are cleared to do so by your physician. We have helped many people return to an active lifestyle.

Will I lose ground if I go away on vacation
and don't work out?

Possibly, but don't worry—it will come back
quickly. We'll see to it!

I'm going to embarrass myself.
qembarass.gif (889 bytes)Absolutely not!! Most of our clients haver never been athletes or ever even worked out before coming to us. You will be amazed at what you are able to do!

How fast will I lose weight?
It depends on you.  Exercise is only half the battle. Your nutrition habits and social environment are also very important—let's talk about it!

I have a class reunion coming up. Can you help me lose 20 pounds in the next week?
You've got the wrong place.  Slow and steady improvement for lifelong habits is our goal.  It's about your health, not your weight.

How often should I work out?
qbeach.gif (1615 bytes)Three to four times per week for most people and up to five to six times per week for others.   We don't believe in working out seven days a week—rest and recovery are equally important.
